Petitioning Karen Lumley MP to hold a public meeting about the Alex

In May 2015 Karen Lumley promised “Once we know the situation we are dealing with I intend to have an open and honest discussion with the people of Redditch about what we need to do going forward. I know exactly what they expect of me and share their commitment to our hospital.”

The future of acute services at the Alexandra hospital is under severe threat and Mrs Lumley has promised “I will do the best job I can for my constituents and the Alex, and will of course continue to listen to the views of all my constituents, the vast majority of whom are as passionate as I am about securing the best possible future for our hospital.”

Since then we have seen closures of gynaecology and maternity departments, with in patient paediatrics closing in September 2016.

Following the publication of the West Midlands Clinical Senate report, we call on Karen Lumley MP to hold a public meeting for the constituents of Redditch in order to facilitate her promise of an open and honest discussion on the future of the Alexandra Hospital.

The situation at the Alex. is now extremely serious and we need to bring all parties together as soon as possible. Our local MPs have tried to put our concerns to Jeremy Hunt and others but we seem to be unable to get past the dire staffing situation following the decision to relocate staff from the Alex to Worcester Royal. It must be possible to recruit competent staff for the Alex. We need an explanation of why it is so difficult and why staff are still leaving. Cannot our local teaching hospitals work cross-boundary to offer staff the conditions, prospects and on-going training opportunities, which would make the Alex. an attractive place to work??? WE ALL KNOW THAT THE SMALLER HOSPITALS ARE BEING SACRIFICED FOR THE SAKE OF THE LARGER COUNTY ONES BUT THIS LEAVES MOTHERS, BABIES AND CHILDREN AT RISK AND CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE.
